What is dental implant?

dentalimplantA dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are made of titanium and they are completely biocompatible. This is an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.

Dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighbouring teeth for support. The dental implant is truly the most natural solution for missing teeth.

Implant therapy procedure:

Conventional protocol implies insertion of the implants and then waiting 45 days to 6 months for the osseointegration (connection between living bone and implant). In the meantime you wear a kind of temporary prosthetic appliance - provisional teeth.

This way of treatment usually means 2-4 visits. If you have good jaw bone and there would be no complications then it can be done in 2 visits, otherwise 3 or 4.

First visit takes 5-7 days. During that time we put implants and provisional teeth. After this you need to wait 45 days to 6 months for osseointegration.

To put final crowns you need to be here for 10-14 days because we need to make an impression of you teeth, send it to laboratory to make final crowns and afterwards cement it in your mouth. If 14 days is to much for one visit it can be split to 2 visits 3-5 days each.

We also do ILF – Immediate Functional Loading (implant and crown at the same day). Only condition is that jaw-bone needs to be of very good quality.

We use Ankilos implants because they are the most advanced in the World. We have tried all famous implants systems and Ankilos has proved the best. It has state-of-the-art concept named "Platform switching". It means that abutment is thinner than implant what gives ideal aesthetic results ("red-white aesthetics"). Lately all other implant systems are following this concept.

If there is a need of full new set of teeth optimal number of implants per jaw is 6 (minimum 4 or maximum 8). In this case when you come here for the last time final full-arch bridge is attached to implants.

Bone augmentation (Bone graft)

For dental implant procedure to work, there must be enough bone in the jaw, and the bone has to be strong enough to hold and support the implant. If there is not enough bone, be may need to be added with a procedure called bone augmentation. Substances used during the process of bone replacement can be the own bone of the patient (auto transplantation) or artificially produced bone expletive substance. The intervention can be carried out in the maxilla and mandible as well.

Unfortunately rehabilitation period in case of any type of bone graft is 10-12 months. After that implants can be putted.

Sinus lifting technique

Sinus lifting is a common surgical intervention nowadays. The Oral surgeon thickens the adequate part of atrophic maxilla towards the sinus with the help of bone transplantation or bone expletive substance and as a result of it we enable the implantation.
